Privacy Policy

This policy describes howlovelands.com, operated by How Love Lands. How Love Lands is the operator of this site. There is no separate business entity yet. Questions and privacy requests go to admin@howlovelands.com.
This policy is written for a California audience, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA). It describes only the data flows in the site as published.
Information you can send us
If you email admin@howlovelands.com, we receive the address you send from, your message, and any attachments you include. We use that email to read your request and reply. We keep it in the mailbox that receives messages at that address until you ask us to delete it or we no longer need it to respond.
Find, on your device
HLL Find asks you to choose from fixed options. It does not ask you to type a story. The choices are a safety check (No, Yes, or I’m not sure) and four questions: what feels hardest, what would be most useful, who it is for, and what kind of help fits. A line on the home page opens an article. It does not choose a quiz answer for you.
Those choices stay on this device, in this browser tab, under the session storage key hll.find.v1. The page uses them in your browser to choose a starting point. Closing the tab clears them. Retake Find clears them. There is no account. When a recommendation is reached after all four questions, this browser keeps one completion note in local storage under hll.find.completions.v1: the time, a random session id for this tab, the first answer you selected, the option ids you selected, and the id of the resource shown. This page also sends that note to How Love Lands (POST /api/find/completions) so we can count finished Finds. The note has no name, no email, and nothing you typed. If the send fails, the copy on this device remains and the page tries again the next time the recommendation is shown. Sending the same session twice stores one row. The results page can ask for an optional email. If you send it, that address and the lane name the quiz chose go to How Love Lands only so they can be forwarded to Beehiiv (POST /api/find/subscribe). The lane name is a short label such as Repair. Neither is written into the completion note. You see the matched article without an email. The fuller resource list appears only after a confirmed subscribe.
While the page is open, the browser also keeps a short in-memory note of events such as starting Find, viewing a question number, finishing Find, viewing results, and focusing the newsletter field. That note can include the page route and a question number. It does not include your selected answers. If results are shown, a separate in-memory note can include the route the matcher chose and, if you click a resource, the resource id and the primary need you selected. Nothing calls an analytics service with those notes. They are discarded when you leave or reload the page. They are not written to local storage.
Anonymous visit record
If the address you opened includes UTM parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_content, or utm_term), this browser tab stores the first set under hll.utm.v1 and sends them to How Love Lands at POST /api/find/n100 with a random event id and the Find session id. Starting Find, reaching a recommendation, and opening a recommended resource send further anonymous event ids on that same row. The completion event on this row includes the recommended resource id. It does not include the option ids from the completion note, and it does not include an email address.
If you choose Send my full breakdown, a random join id is sent to Beehiiv as the custom field fwf_join_key and stored on that row so the signup can be matched to the session. The email address is not written on the row. A recommendation click is also stored separately at POST /api/find/attribution with the session id, resource id, destination URL, and time. The n100 row records whether the catalog marked that resource as an affiliate link. We do not receive purchase data.
These anonymous events, together with the UTM parameters, are the record of the visit. When a PostHog project key is configured, the same funnel names are also sent to PostHog with a question id or resource id only. If that key is unset, PostHog receives nothing.
The Landing
The footer form asks for an email address so you can continue to Beehiiv. Choosing Continue checks that the address looks like an email, then opens https://newsletter.howlovelands.com/subscribe in a new tab. The address you typed is not added to that link and is not sent to Beehiiv or to How Love Lands by this page. You enter it again on Beehiiv if you want to subscribe. Beehiiv then handles that signup under Beehiiv’s own practices. The address remains in the form on this page until you clear it or leave.
Fonts and images
Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts. That requests a stylesheet from fonts.googleapis.com and font files from fonts.gstatic.com. Your browser sends Google the ordinary connection data for that request, including your IP address and the site origin. Photographs on the pages are embedded in the page as data URIs. They are not loaded from a third-party image host.
Recommendations
If you open a recommended resource, your browser goes to that resource’s site. Some of those links are affiliate links. The other site’s privacy practices apply once you arrive. Affiliate status does not determine the match.
Hosting
Cloudflare hosts the site. Delivering a page can involve Cloudflare processing connection data such as IP address, date and time, and the URL requested. We use that hosting to operate and protect the site. We do not use it to advertise to you.
Cookies
The site does not set cookies. Details of session storage and the Google Fonts request are in the Cookie Policy.
Sale and sharing
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use personal information for targeted advertising.

Your California rights
If you are a California resident, you may ask How Love Lands to:
- Tell you the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties we disclose it to.
- Delete personal information we have collected from you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Opt out of sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share it. You may still send this request.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not use it for advertising.
We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You will not receive a different price or a different level of the site for making a request.
Find progress stored only in this browser tab is not in our possession. You can clear it by closing the tab, choosing Retake Find, or removing the site’s session storage. A completion row we have stored is keyed by the random session id in hll.find.completions.v1, not by an email address. To ask us to delete that row, include the session id in your email.
How to make a request
Email admin@howlovelands.com with the right you want to use. An authorized agent may email for you with evidence that you authorized them. We will match the request to the email address you used, because that is the personal information we can actually hold. We will respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why and may take up to another 45 days.
If we deny a request, you may reply to that email and ask us to reconsider. We will explain the result in writing.
Children
The site is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has emailed us, write to admin@howlovelands.com and we will delete that message.
Changes
If the site starts collecting or sending information in a new way, we will update this page and its effective date before relying on the new practice.
